“Ours is not to redirect, restrain, or merely manage and modify. Ours is to understand, share, and shape. Ours is to prioritize safety, rapport, and the televisibility of what we do above all else. We have proven that meaningful outcomes can follow when we prioritize these things.”

- Dr. Gregory Hanley A Perspective on Today’s ABA

1:1 ABA Support

The comprehensive model for 1:1 support is intended for people with complex barriers to accessing their education, social opportunities, and/or other essential aspects of daily life. Typically, this model will begin with an intensive schedule including sessions 5 days per week (total hours each day/week are determined by a thorough initial assessment of need). Services may take place at the person’s home, work, community, school, or any combination of locations where they may face challenges or wish to build skills toward greater access and independence.

Included in the 1:1 ABA Support Model:

  • Thorough initial assessment and ongoing assessment with new service plans developed at least every 6 months by a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA)

  • 1:1 support by a Registered Behavior Technician (BT) under the close supervision and guidance of a BCBA

  • Frequent, dedicated consult meetings between BCBA and caregivers

  • Close, ongoing collaboration with other stakeholders (other service providers, education teams, etc)

  • Guidance and support specific to advocating for additional services including helping caregivers navigate the IEP process

Caregiver Consult

Consultation, coaching, and education for caregivers is an essential component to the 1:1 intensive ABA model. Caregiver consult allows Perch to better generalize skills taught during ABA sessions and to empower caregivers with the ability to continue support once intensive ABA services are no longer needed.

Perch also offers a model for caregiver consult without BT sessions that is ideal for families that are seeking immediate support while on waiting list(s) for more intensive ABA services or for those wishing to address specific skills/behaviors that do not require 1:1 BT support. Caregiver consult can include any caregivers invested in the well-being of the client including au pairs, parents, grandparents, foster parents, and older siblings. This model includes initial and ongoing assessment and can be customized to fit the family’s needs and schedules.

Education Consult

Perch is proud to partner with many local education organizations around the Puget Sound. Education consult is offered in a variety of models including, but not limited to:

  • Administration of Function Behavior Assessments (FBAs) and development of Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs) for a student’s Individual Education Plan (IEP)

  • Training and coaching instructional aids, teachers, and other educators to implement BIPs and positive reinforcement systems for individual students, classes, and/or school buildings

  • Administration of Ecological Assessments and development of a report to outline identified areas of need and potential for growth across classrooms, schools, and educational organizations

  • BCBA consult for teaching staff with or without direct BT support

  • BCBA consult for private schools seeking guidance to inform modifications and accommodations for their students

Perch has experience consulting with daycares, preschools, transition programs for adults, and nearly every age/grade range in between. We welcome creative, collaborative, thinking to customize systems of support to fit the unique needs of each classroom.

Assessments inform high-quality service design and socially significant goals for each those at the center of Perch services. Perch clinicians are trained to administer a wide range of behavioral, daily living, language, and social skill assessments for individual people, IEP teams, and educators. BCBAs will score, interpret, and present assessment results along with recommendations to stakeholders.

Assessment

Perch has been fortunate to partner with leadership from a variety of organizations to provide ongoing coaching to instructional assistants, teachers, and administrative staff. Typically, staff training takes place after the completion of an Ecological Assessment and/or additional assessments to identify potential areas for growth. These assessments inform a thorough report of recommendations which Perch BCBAs use to guide training goals.

Perch strives to utilize resources already available to the organization rather than recommending expensive branded packages of specific tools, posters, or webinars. Staff training and consult is especially useful when an organization has a group of dedicated educators on board who would benefit from a cohesive plan, a shared vocabulary, and guidance toward putting great ideas into action.
